The MoyaMoya Foundation Co. joins the moyamoya community in expressing our sorrow in hearing about the passing of Dr. R. Michael Scott, MD. Dr. Scott was a giant in the neurosurgical world, pioneering the surgical approach often used in children with moyamoya known as “pial synangiosis”. He served as the Chief of Neurosurgery at Boston Children’s Hospital and as Professor of Neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School for numerous years where he mentored many neurosurgeons in training who also have become leaders in the field. Upon his retirement, the Chief of Neurosurgery appointment was named after him, a fitting and deeply deserved recognition.
The moyamoya community is forever indebted to Dr. Scott for his remarkable contributions of knowledge and skill, and for the incredible care he provided to his many patients over his prolific career. The MoyaMoya Foundation Co extends our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, as well as all the lives he touched including his patients and mentees.
